for Comprehensive Clean Energy Legislation
Tell Congress to Act Now and Pass Comprehensive Clean Energy Legislation
The way we currently produce and use energy is exhausting our financial and natural resources. Today, North Carolina imports nearly all of its energy sources - coal, oil, natural gas, uranium, etc - with total energy expenditures estimated at more than $30 billion. Coal, oil and gas companies continue to raise prices as the resources become scarce and global demand increases. Especially during these tough economic times, families and small businesses are struggling to pay higher energy bills and gas prices. The situation is a challenge that presents North Carolina with great opportunity. A recent study by the University of Massachusetts-Amherst found that an investment of $100 billion in clean energy could create 62,015 new, good paying jobs across various sectors of the economy here in North Carolina. Our state could once again become a leader in manufacturing. With substantial offshore wind energy capacity off our coasts, we could cut the cost of importing oil and help make America energy independent. Through partnerships with our top notch university and community college systems, we could train workers for these new clean energy jobs right here at home. Passing comprehensive clean energy legislation will achieve three important goals:
We, the undersigned, support The Heat Is On campaign. We must get our economy moving again by building a clean energy future. The time to act is now. We urge members of the North Carolina Congressional Delegation to pass comprehensive clean energy legislation this session. |
