Our Work

Conservation Council understands that in order to achieve success, you have to work together. And so we play a key role in advocating for the NC Common Agenda: Priorities for the Environment. The Common Agenda represents the environmental legislative priorities that have been agreed upon by a network of environmental groups in the state. While each group may have particular issues they focus on – energy, water, or transportation for example – during the Common Agenda process they come together to work on a select number of priorities during the Legislative Session. This kind of focus and collaboration is a powerful tool in influencing legislative outcomes.

We believe it is vitally important to educate legislators about key environmental issues so they can make informed decisions. And so the Conservation Council publishes a "Hotlist" of "sizzling" environmental issues and related legislation which is delivered to lawmakers and inside influencers.

Conservation Council produces the Legislative Scorecard every year, grading legislators on their votes on key environmental issues, so that you can see how your elected officials are voting when it comes to our air, water, and land resources. We host the Green Tie Awards Dinner to honor decision-makers who do the right thing.smokestack

Our Environmental Enforcement Campaign works to make sure that the strong environmental laws we pass at the Legislature are actually being enforced by our state agencies.  The Heat is On Campaign is leveraging support for a strong global warming bill at the federal level.  Sign up for the Conservation Insider Bulletin to stay informed.

Elections & Endorsements

Voting is the most important thing you can do for the environment....

Whether it's a vote for legislation protecting our water quality, or a vote for a candidate who cares about clean air and clean water, Conservation Council knows that voting is one of the most important things we can do for the environment.  We keep legislators informed about what actions they need to take to set sound environmental policy.  We let you know how they are voting on these environmental issues so that you can make an informed decision at the ballot box.  And we educate votes about the candidates we endorse--and those that don't make the grade on the environment.
