About Us

The Conservation Political Action Committee, or CPAC, is a non-partisan, affiliated political action committee established by the Conservation Council of North Carolina so we can work directly through the political process to hold our elected officials accountable for better environmental decision-making.

We work hard to elect candidates who will pass policies that ensure clean air, clean water, and the health of our communities.

What we Do:

Conservation Council knows the most important decisions made on the environment are made by our elected officials.  We advocate for stronger environmental protections at the North Carolina General Assembly.  We publish a Legislative Scorecard that helps keep you informed about how your decision-makers are voting on critical environmental decisions.

Conservation PAC takes this work to Election Day by making endorsements for legislative candidates and other state offices.  We support strong pro-environmental candidates directly, through the media, and through volunteer activities.  We also work hard to defeat anti-environmental candidates.  By leveraging political funding on behalf of the environment, CPAC will help build the political clout of people and organizations who care about the environment.

Through the joint efforts of Conservation Council of NC and Conservation PAC, we work to make sure politicians are protecting our environment, while at the same time, encouraging environmentalists to play a more active role in politics. Through our combined efforts, we work to make sound environmental policy -- policy that protects our citizens, our economy, and North Carolina's environment -- a political reality.

Conservation PAC actively:

  • Works to hold legislators and other decision-makers accountable for their environmental decisions;
  • Supports candidates for public office who will protect our right to clean air and safe water;
  • Opposes candidates whose policies are destructive to the environment; and
  • Educates voters and candidates on environmental issues to make them a part of the public debate.

We are non-partisan, and we only target races where our investment can make a difference.

Our Vision:

Our vision for the future is a pro-conservation majority in the General Assembly, setting sound environmental policies that protect North Carolina's environment, economy, and communities. We envision the environment becoming a top-tier voting issue.  Ultimately, we envision a state government that engages thougthfully in the environmental debate, environmental champions committed to passing sound environmental laws, and state agencies willing and able to enforce those laws.

To get there, we need more citizens thinking, acting, and voting on behalf of the environment --and helping hold our elected leaders accountable for a better environment.

Who We Are:

The Conservation PAC is a committee made up of environmental leaders and political activists. Committee recommendations are approved by the Board of the Conservation Council of NC.

We are also members of the national League of Conservation Voters who work to elect pro-conservation candidates to Congress and pass strong national environmental policies.

What you can do:

We need your help to build a pro-conservation majority:

  • ELECT candidates that recognize North Carolina voters want clean air, safe water, and healthy communities for their families -- Vote in every election!
  • DEMONSTRATE environmental concerns are important electoral issues -- Ask your candidates hard questions about where they stand on local, state, and federal environmental issues.
  • ENCOURAGE all politicians to become more attentive to the environment -- Call your elected official in support of sound environmental policies once they've been elected.
  • BECOME a MEMBER of the Conservation Council of NC now, and financially support our efforts to build a pro-conservation majority.
