The Conservation Council of NC (CCNC) is a statewide lobbying organization dedicated to advocating on behalf of North Carolina's environment. (Under the IRS code, CCNC is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization.)

What We Do:

  • Support a full-time lobbyist at the General Assembly.
  • Provide environmental representation before state agencies and commissions.
  • Keep environmentalists across the state informed of developments in the legislature, including timely action alerts on key issues.
  • Publish the Carolina Conservationist, our quarterly newsletter.
  • Publish the Legislative Scorecard to educate citizens about the records of legislators and hold legislators accountable for their environmental decisions.
  • Motivate voters and give them the tools they need to support strong conservation candidates.
  • Play an active role in electing strong environmental candidates to the legislature through the Conservation PAC.

Whether at the legislature or before state commissions, CCNC tackles issues that show up in your own community. We are unique because we give voice to individuals and organizations across North Carolina in making state policies and laws. By bringing the resources of individuals together, we can maintain a full-time presence where decisions are being made. We can react quickly and independently to environmental threats specific to North Carolina because we are a statewide group responsible only to our members. We work on the issues that concern you.

Mission & Vision:

CCNC is a statewide lobbying organization dedicated to protecting, preserving, and enhancing North Carolina's natural environment. We do this by:

  • Advocating positive changes in environmental policies.
  • Educating and mobilizing citizens.
  • Taking a leadership role in initiatives to promote sound environmental management.
  • Making the environment a priority for legislators and the public.
  • Holding legislators accountable for environmental decisions.

Our vision for the future of North Carolina is that we will all better understand and appreciate North Carolina's unique natural environment, actively work to protect it, and will take responsibility for creating better public policy through the efforts of CCNC and others.

We hope that these efforts, combined with the efforts of individuals and groups across the state, will guarantee that all North Carolinians will have the opportunity to experience the power and beauty of our natural treasures

Past, Present, & Future:

CCNC has been working to protect North Carolina's environment and our citizen's health for 35 years. From the new River in the west, to bald Head Island in the east, CCNC has fought to preserve the treasures of our state for future generations and ensure that our citizens have a better quality of life. From nuclear power plants to pollution prevention, clean water to clean air, CCNC is fighting for you.

Our agenda is dynamic, evolving to meet new challenges and constantly seeking opportunities to promote a better environment for all of North Carolina.

Our efforts range from:

  • Protecting citizens and rivers from pollution, including waste from large hog farms and pollution from industry and cities.
  • Preserving natural landscapes from uncontrolled growth and development.
  • Improving citizen health and air quality by cleaning up our power plants, cars, and industries.
